Observance of World Zoonoses Day

Zoonoses day 2020World Zoonoses Day is held every year on July 6. The day commemorates the great French biologist, Louis Pasteur, who in 1885,  successfully administered the first vaccine against Rabies, a zoonotic disease that can be spread between animals and man. 

PVDA is concerned about the risks arising out the zoonotic diseases, as the members of this organization are shouldering the responsibilities of preventing infectious diseases in animals and creating awareness amongst their clients / owner. 

This year, PVDA celebrated World Zoonosis Day with a variety of programme on 5th July, 2020 at SAHC Campus, Chinsurah, Hooghly district with the help of PVDA Hooghly District Committee.

Sri Asit Majumdar,  Hon'ble MLA, Chinsurah Assembly Constituency inaugurated the programme. Dr. Animesh Sikder,  Chief Executive Officer,  Pashim Banga Go-Sampad Bikash Sanstha, Dr.  Jayjit Mitra, Vice President, PVDA, Dr.  Chayan Bhattacharya,  General Secretary, PVDA,  Dr. Prabir Panja, Assistant General Secretary, PVDA graced the programme. District President, District Secretary and other members of PVDA of Hooghly  and adjacent  district were present. Several animal owner and  animal activists present in the programme were pleased with the initiative taken by PVDA even in this pandemic COVID situation. 

 

On this occasion, a team of qualified Veterinary Doctor checked up the health status of more than 200 dogs and cats. Total 186 street dogs and cats were also vaccinated in two spots in Chinsurah locality. The pet owner and farmers were sensitized regarding the risks of zoonotic diseases and measures to be taken to minimize the spread of different infectious diseases between animal and man.
